The Birdwatcher’s Paradise:The lake is one of Europe’s most important bird reserves, home to over280 species. It is most famous for the rareDalmatian Pelican, which has become the symbol of the national park.
Unique Waters:The lake is famous for its “okos” (eyes)—deep underwater springs that feed the lake from beneath. The surface is also a sight to behold, often covered in vast fields of white and yellow water lilies.
Biodiversity:Beneath the water, more than 50 species of fish thrive, including the local carp and bleak, which have been the foundation of the local diet and culture for centuries.
A Journey Through Time.
Island Monasteries:Often called the “Holy Mountain of Montenegro,” the lake is home to several small islands that host medieval monasteries dating back to the 14th century. These peaceful retreats were once centers of spirituality and literacy.
Fortresses and Towers:The lake has always been a strategic crossroads. Today, you can still see the remains of historic fortificationslikeLesendroandGrmožur, which stand as silent witnesses to the many battles fought for this territory.

Cultural Heritage:The area is also famous for its long-standing tradition of winemaking and fishing, where the lifestyle is still closely tied to the rhythms of the seasons and the lake.
